St. Michael Catholic School
Mission
Shaping disciples of Jesus by igniting the spiritual, academic and social growth within each child.
Our Philosophy
St. Michael Catholic School is dedicated to:
- Teaching students to learn and live the Catholic faith in an environment where Christian values are taught and modeled. We prepare students for active participation in the Church’s social mission.
- Designing standards-based curricula that include mastery of basic skills, development of critical thinking, and encouragement of children to reach their potential to function as fully contributing members of society.
- Respecting the dignity of individuals regardless of race, gender, economic, or religious background.
- Creating an atmosphere in which students, parents, and staff can worship, learn, and work together.
- Developing an attitude of support among students, parents, and staff for the rules and policies of St. Michael Catholic School.
Our Values
A Catholic School Education
Parents are the primary teachers of their children, especially in the “Ways of Faith.” Therefore, the significance of a Catholic school education must complement parent’s efforts in passing along Catholic values, faith, and way of life to their children. At St. Michael Catholic School children live their faith and spirituality throughout the day. When children see how God is part of every class and activity in school, they will learn to see that God is involved in every aspect of a Christian’s life.
Catholic faith-based values permeate all we do through:
- Daily religion class
- Time for prayer and reflection throughout the day
- Special activities aligned with liturgical seasons
- Weekly children’s liturgies to unite our school and parish community that students plan and lead
- Carrying out our Mission in ways that fit the age level of students and the focus of the school
Core Values Associated with Catholic Education
These are the core values of a Catholic life:
- To know and love Jesus Christ. With that comes a knowledge and acceptance of His example and teachings as found in the Holy Scriptures.
- To learn and honor the Church Jesus founded, including an understanding of the teachings, traditions, and liturgies of the Church. This creates the opportunity to learn and share the faith with others; to live a life of forgiveness, to have compassion for the poor, to recognize the dignity of every individual who is created in the image and likeness of God, and to become actively involved in the work of the Church to make this world a better, more loving, and more just place for all people.
- To continue providing a well-developed curriculum intended to prepare children for a holy and productive life within our American Community.
Integrating Those Values in Our Parish and School Community
Values are only “ideals” until incorporated into a person’s life. We must live by example, showing how our faith as staff and parish members influence the daily decisions we make. That is the most important way these values “come to life” and effectively influence the children of St. Michael Catholic School.
Our School Strategic Plan
