Educating the Whole Child:
Mind, Body and Spirit.
St. Michael Catholic School utilizes the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed by the I Love U Guys Foundation. Our public district, PLSAS, also uses these protocols as do our local law enforcement partners. The SRP is based not on individual scenarios but on the response to any given situation. 5 actions that could be used in any emergency situation will be learned and practiced throughout the school year. You will find a description of each action linked here.
5 Fire Drills (EVACUATE)
3 LOCKDOWN Drills
3 SECURE Drills
2 HOLD Drills
1 Tornado Drill (SHELTER)
In the event of an emergency, we ask for parent/guardian cooperation in the following procedures:
Please do not call the school. Telephone lines must be kept available for emergency communication.
Please do not come to the school unless requested to pick up your child.
You can expect the school district to respond and inform you via our Talking Points app (text and voicemails), social media, email and the school website.
SMCS enjoys a strong working relationship with Prior Lake Police and Fire Departments, as well as Scott County Emergency Management .
SMCS will close when PLSAS closes for severe weather. Families will be notified via the Talking Points app, on WCCO TV and Radio, and via email.
Exterior doors are locked throughout the school day. All visitors must enter through the locked main entrance which is clearly marked. Office staff have visual and audio access to the door and will admit visitors, then ask them to report to the office to sign in and obtain an identification tag. An appointment must be arranged in advance to visit a particular class. An adult must accompany visitors under the age of 13.
Should an emergency situation arise in one of our buildings while school is in session, we want you to be aware that we have made preparations to respond effectively and appropriately.
St. Michael Catholic School has a detailed, all-hazards emergency plan that has been formulated to provide direction to its staff and students during an emergency. This Reunification process was planned with the help of local law enforcement and is designed to ensure parents and students are safely reunited during an emergency.
Prior to reuniting families with their student, it is important for parents to remember the following:
Stay Home - Going to the school could interfere with emergency responders' ability to respond to the crisis.
Stay Informed - Reunification will occur at a different location than the school a student attends. Do not call or text. The district will keep parents informed.
Be Ready - Parents will be instructed to bring a photo ID and come to a Reunification check-in location to be reunited with their child.
